Audiovox Launches Car Connection and Care ConnectionLAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- International CES, Center Hall, Booth 10404-10415 -- Audiovox Electronics Corp. (AEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of VOXX International Corporation (Nasdaq:VOXX), today announced the launch of its Care Connection and Car Connection products, both location based service systems (LBS) that will utilize Sprint's Nationwide Network in the U.S.A.

'Car Connection' is a new plug in On-Board Diagnostic (OBDII) device that will allow consumers to monitor, manage and maintain not only their own and other family drivers habits, but also vehicle performance and maintenance. It is a DIY solution that simply plugs into the vehicle's OBDII port, a standard feature on all vehicles since 1996.

'Care Connection' is a wearable personal tracking system that features two way voice communication that will help the 'sandwich generation' secure, protect and locate the people that they value most- their young children, teen drivers and aging parents. Both systems will utilize Sprint's wireless network for connectivity.

According to the Alzheimer's Association, "Of the 5.4 million Americans currently living with Alzheimer's, 6 out of 10 will wander and become lost at some point during the course of the disease. Wandering poses immediate safety concerns and creates significant stress for caregivers. Car Connection features include the ability to disable text messaging in the vehicle as well as the ability to monitor drivers to detect reckless driving habits, a vehicle locator, geofencing and speed alerts. For consumers and fleet owners alike, there are automobile maintenance alerts and reminders as well as driver safety alerts. The systems also include driver coaching and allows for partnering with insurance companies to offer Usage-Based-Insurance (UBI) discounts. Car Connection is a small module that fits in the palm of your hand and plugs in under the dash in the OBDII portal...which makes it a complete DIY product.

With Care Connection, caregivers and users maintain contact via two-way voice, SMS alerts and a web portal. The voice feature guarantees that you can be in touch with your loved ones 24/7. One touch on the device connects them to your phone. The core device can be integrated with a variety of wearable's including a watch strap, clip, lanyard and even an in-car mount. Care Connection will provide GPS and GPS tracking, geofencing, two way communications and includes a wearer emergency button. Care Connection can also send text alerts based on preset parameters.

In addition to Sprint, Audiovox has partnered with Agnik and Omnilink for this program. Agnik will be supplying the vehicle performance data analytics engine that resides in the OBDII Hardware.

The Agnik onboard software will analyze the diagnostic, location, driving and other performance data using Agnik's patented data stream mining algorithms for creating all of the analytics required to determine vehicle health and driver scoring as well as manage the gateway to our back-end servers that the consumer will use to monitor this information. Agnik has significant expertise in the analytics and mining of all of the data coming out of the vehicle and converting it into useful information for a consumer.

Omnilink will host the consumer website, which will be branded Audiovox Care and Car Connection and will be responsible for the management of the back-end services and consumer billing for both Car & Care Connection. They will provide all of the location-based services functionality, including tracking, and geofencing, as well as alerting and a web-based user interface.

The new products will be shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January and Audiovox anticipates retail distribution in Q1 2012.
